This checklist organizes cleaning tasks into four frequency tiers \u2014 Daily, Weekly, Monthly\/Term Break, and Outbreak Response \u2014 and applies them to each major facility area. Each task is tagged with the relevant compliance standard so the connection between the cleaning activity and the regulatory requirement is explicit.<\/p>\n

The Complete Childcare Cleaning Checklist by Area<\/a><\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Playrooms & Activity Areas<\/li>\n
  2. Nappy Change Area<\/li>\n
  3. Bathrooms & Toilets<\/li>\n
  4. Kitchen & Food Preparation Areas<\/li>\n
  5. Sleep & Rest Rooms<\/li>\n
  6. Windows & Glass<\/li>\n
  7. Outdoor Play Areas<\/li>\n
  8. Bins, Consumables & General Reset<\/li>\n
  9. Outbreak & Biohazard Response, as Required<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Add the following tasks to the cleaning program immediately following a gastroenteritis, respiratory illness, or other infectious disease outbreak. These tasks supplement,but do not replace, the daily checklist. Cleaners must complete and document them<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Vomit\/fecal biohazard cleanup in two-stage bulk removal.<\/li>\n
    • Full disinfection of all surfaces in affected rooms with a listed pathogen-specific disinfectant<\/li>\n
    • Remove all toys from affected rooms for quarantine and deep sanitization before return to service<\/li>\n
    • Enhanced frequency disinfection of all high-touch surfaces every 2 hours during outbreak period<\/li>\n
    • Carpet hot water extraction in affected rooms following outbreak resolution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Adapting This Checklist for Different Facility Types<\/h4>\n

      Long day care centers operating from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm have no practical window during operating hours for a comprehensive clean. Cleaning crews must work after hours, starting at 6:30 pm, to clean every room to the daily standard without disrupting children and educators. For these facilities, cleaners complete the daily checklist in a single after-hours visit and leave the signed log on-site for management to review each morning.<\/p>\n

      Family day care homes present a different challenge,\u00a0 smaller space, residential environment, and the need for fragrance-free and non-toxic products throughout is even more pronounced when the care setting is also the educator’s home. The daily checklist applies in full, with additional attention to product selection, fragrance-free products throughout, and particular care in the sleep room where prolonged child contact with recently-cleaned surfaces occur.<\/p><\/div>\n
